At the beginning of the second week of January, Atlantic storm lows bring strong gusts of wind, plenty of rain and still quite mild temperatures to Germany. “First “Constantin”, then “Delf”: Storm lows over the North Atlantic and Northwest Europe will continue to determine the weather for the time being,” predicted Adrian Leyser from the German Weather Service in Offenbach on Sunday. That keeps “the winter on the back burner.” You can’t see much of the sun either.
At the end of the week, one or the other river is likely to be flooded, Leyser warned. “Within a week, a month’s total of precipitation can easily accumulate in traffic jams. This is slowly but surely driving the river levels up.”
It can only snow temporarily in the higher mountains. The flakes should only stay on the warm ground for a short time. The meteorologists see “significant fresh snow” in the Alps, at least above 1000 to 1500 meters. “Wind and clouds leave little room for the cold sea air to settle down and cool down,” notes meteorologist Leyser.
Strong gusts of wind sometimes make handling umbrellas difficult. A larger storm situation is unlikely, but gusts of wind are possible on the coast and in the higher mountains, according to the meteorologists’ forecast.
