The accesses to the Nudo Norte remodeling works from Paseo de la Castellana towards the M-607 (vehicles heading for Colmenar-Tres Cantos) and towards the M-30 south have been definitively configured during Sunday night to Monday.
This causes the elimination of the braided roads that congested the Nudo Norte, allowing the direct connection of vehicles with these roads, as reported by the Madrid City Council in a statement.
Direct access to the M-30 in the direction of Avenida de la Ilustracion will still have to wait a few more months and, therefore, users are recommended to continue using alternative routes from Plaza de Cuzco, Plaza de Castilla and Avenida de Monforte. of Lemos.
The new Nudo Norte underpass was put into operation on May 11 in order to eliminate the braid for vehicles heading for the Burgos highway and the M-11, those that run along the M-607/ M-30 between Nudo Norte and Nudo de Manoteras and those who go to the A-1 or continue their journey to the south of the M-30.
With this action, “an important black spot on the municipal road” is eliminated, relieving the traffic congestion that occurs, fundamentally, at rush hour in the morning and in the afternoon when leaving the city via Castellana.
The reform of the Nudo Norte is one of the works that the City Council carries out within the Madrid 360 Environmental Sustainability Strategy and whose objective is to eliminate traffic congestion in the area through which 34,000 vehicles circulate daily at rush hour in the morning and 33,800 in the afternoon slot.
The remodeling of the Nudo Norte makes it possible to increase road capacity at critical points and eliminate crossings. For private vehicles, it will mean a saving of time behind the wheel of 31% at rush hour, which translates into a total of 3,667 hours a day.
With this remodeling, traffic congestion levels in the Nudo Norte will be reduced below 70%, which will benefit air quality by reducing an average of 14 tons of CO2 per day.
