The re-election of the former leader of the Greens had been expected. During the election campaign, he relied on continuity and promised security “in stormy times” in the face of inflation and the energy crisis. Had Van der Bellen not received more than 50 percent of the votes, as now expected, a run-off election would have been necessary on November 6th.

The Federal President can be re-elected once in Austria. A total of 6.4 million of the nine million inhabitants were called to vote.
