The general education schools in Lower Saxony continue to receive help with the care of around 20,500 school children from the Ukrainian war zone. As the Ministry of Education announced on Thursday in Hanover, the financing of a total of 428 jobs created in school social work, school psychology and educational staff will be extended until the end of 2023. The budget committee of the state parliament has now provided 20 million euros for this. The funds come from the first supplementary budget to cushion the consequences of the Russian war of aggression against Ukraine.
“The schools and employees have planning security for the time being,” emphasized Minister of Education Julia Willie Hamburg (Greens) in a statement. The next step is to create permanent funds for permanent employment of employees and specialists. “The need for a wide range of skills to support students and relieve teachers will remain very high. I will therefore work to ensure that we maintain this structure and expand it further in the future,” explained Hamburg.
