Knowledge is power – and that’s why we don’t want to withhold our podcast “NEON Useless Knowledge” from you. Lars Paulsen and Ivy Haase know a lot – or at least they are pretty good at reading the real useless knowledge facts. With the podcast you are prepared for every tricky job interview, the next unpleasant small talk and also the upcoming visit to the in-laws.

“Ivy asked me before the recording if I was ready, I said yes – that was a lie, you can’t actually be ready on this subject,” reveals Lars at the beginning of the new episode. And Ivy, who is in bed with Corona, has already announced that she could put her foot in it even more often than usual on the subject and her Covid brain – that can be something!

Because today we’re getting down to business with “NEON Useless Knowledge”, Ivy and Lars dive deep into the world of lateral thinking, conspiracy theories and esotericism.

In line with these controversies, Ivy and Lars are also arguing wildly: Why does Lars refuse to use the word “lateral thinker” and what does Ivy say about it as a self-confessed gender fan? And how likely is it that one of the moderation duo would be part of conspiracy theories themselves?

Ivy has to realize that she would actually be predestined to become a lateral thinker and reports what that has to do with the fact that she often sees faces in houses. Later, the two talk about the change in meaning of the word “lateral thinker” and the question of why so many of these people actually come from Swabia. And of course there is a lot of discussion again, for example about why the word “conspiracy theory” should actually no longer be used.

Nevertheless, of course, Ivy and Lars still have “a few of the craziest conspiracy theories” ready: For example, that “some people believe that 5G technology weakens the immune system and that is why we react so strongly to the corona virus. In order to prevent this, the transmission masts would have to be torn out” – completely absurd, Ivy thinks. But not much crazier than all the other obscure theories about secret experiments in chemistry laboratories and the secret machinations of the USA that are supposed to exist.

The two are shocked by how many Germans think “there is no clear evidence that the corona virus exists”. “I think if you’ve lost faith in the system, it’s really difficult to get to these people, even if you act with empathy.” Fortunately, the lateral thinkers are not all equally extreme in their views: there was beef in 2021 among the lateral thinkers – you can find out what that has to do with the Reich citizens and what financial deal was in the room in the small episode on Thursday, “a little teaser at this point,” reveals Ivy.

Lars also talks about which place he would least like to be in the whole world – spoiler: It has something to do with lateral thinkers fleeing abroad.

Finally, the two make a little detour:

“You know, Lars and I are big esoteric fans” – by the way: “There is no generally valid definition of what esotericism actually is.” But a surprising number of Germans agree that there are guardian angels, lucky charms, really luck and fortune tellers can predict their future.

Lars tells what lucky charm got him good grades at school, and Ivy reveals whether she has a guardian angel herself. Then the two deal with esoteric gadgets. There are quite a few: Whether magic wands made of moonstone for 60 euros or orgone energy wands for over 200 euros – Ivy is amazed at how much money you can put into it. “You have to stop me Lars, my corona brain is way too deep in esoteric madness” – will she still be tempted and become the proud owner of a magic wand at the end of the podcast?
