The Dresdner SC volleyball team lost the first playoff semi-final against defending champion Allianz MTV Stuttgart 0:3 (23:25, 24:26, 21:25). This means that the winner of the preliminary round in the “best-of-three series” already has the chance to make it into the final in the second game in Dresden on Wednesday.
The clear result belies the course of the game. In front of 2038 spectators, the women from the Elbe city delivered an exchange of blows at eye level to the big favorite in all three sets. The fifth in the preliminary round, who was plagued by injuries, showed himself to be tactically excellent.
Coach Alexander Waibl’s protégés served powerfully, were able to score successfully from a stable assumption and the block and field defense worked self-sacrificingly. In the end, only small things decided the first two sets.
In the third round, the guests led almost continuously until 20:17. But then the DSC women made a few slight mistakes and, above all, the Stuttgart attacker Simone Lee and the MTV block improved. After 83 minutes, the Stuttgart women turned the first match point into victory. Captain Jennifer Janiska (15 points) was voted MVP at the DSC.
