Mr. Horel, back pain is a common problem. Nevertheless, doctors in Germany rarely manage to cure them. Of 100 patients who sought help, only 27 were pain-free within a year, according to the “Back Fact Check”. What’s wrong? Maybe we just have wrong expectations. I like to compare back pain to a cold. Nobody would say you should never suffer from a cold again. When such studies are published and it is said that “only” 27 patients were pain-free within a year, then that implies that all 100 should be pain-free. However, that is a very unrealistic goal. In fact, back pain is widespread and occurs again and again, regardless of age.
So should we just accept our pain? No. Nobody likes to be in pain. But I notice a big misunderstanding in society: Many patients believe that pain can be traced back to a single cause and that they only have to do one specific thing to achieve the goal of freedom from pain. However, there are usually a variety of causes.
