The writer Uwe Tellkamp (“The Tower”) has attested to the media, such as public broadcasting, having an uncritical relationship with politics in Germany. During a discussion on Thursday evening in the Dresden Frauenkirche, he accused them of hardly ever criticizing the government and accepting requests from there. When moderator Alexandra Gerlach interjected that there were no political calls to editorial offices, Tellkamp said: “If I’m already on the line myself, then I don’t need a call. Then I’ll write what’s expected anyway.” In the figurative sense, critics also “got one over it immediately” during the migration crisis. This is now continuing with the energy transition, climate change and gender.
In the discussion round of the Forum Frauenkirche under the title “What is free speech allowed and how many opinions can reality tolerate?” In addition to Tellkamp, ??the author Lukas Rietzschel (“Hit the world with your fist”) was also invited. At first it was almost impossible to have a proper discussion because Tellkamp only answered in rhymes and usually read them off the paper. After a quarter of an hour he gave up after repeated interventions by the moderator. Now and then he later interspersed verses, such as the saying: “If you’re anti, trans and climate, then you’re really green, you’re fine.” Tellkamp repeatedly took the view that artists would only play the role of fools in society.
