Lower Saxony’s former Environment Minister Wolfgang Jüttner (SPD) is critical of the effects of social media on political discourse. The tone has “tightened dramatically due to the no longer so new social media and has become unbearably rough,” said Jüttner of the “Hannoversche Allgemeine Zeitung” (Monday).
There is hardly any opportunity to withdraw once in order to develop a reasonable thought in peace. “The climate of discourse has become unbearable. Everything is judged at lightning speed and panned in published opinions on the Internet.”
There have also been sharp arguments in the past, but with respect for the integrity of the other party. “He’s gone today,” said the former minister and longtime member of parliament, who turns 75 on Tuesday. In addition, there are hardly any substantive, programmatic debates, said Jüttner.
