‘The power of museums’ is the motto under which International Museum Day is celebrated this year. And it is a golden opportunity to visit these spaces, for free. There are almost fifty museums, practically for all kinds of sensitivities, in the region. And in addition to the open doors, some will also offer musical performances today and some even invite a Spanish wine.
The Prado Museum, for example, offers free access to its temporary and permanent exhibitions. And also the initiative ‘Sound Brushstrokes’, music in room 49 of the Villanueva building at 12, 1 and 4 p.m. The Thyssen will give free access to the permanent collection and the exhibition ‘Sorolla and fashion’ from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m.
And they will be able to ‘enter’ paintings by Van Gogh or Mondrian. The Reina Sofía Art Center will have 17 hours of music with more than 40 live performances.
Caixaforum is open for free during its regular hours, also for some of its temporary exhibitions. The National Archaeological Museum opens its doors and has guided tours at 12, 5 and 6:30 p.m., prior registration. In the Sorolla Museum there are guided tours at 5:30 p.m. and 6:30 p.m., and in Cerralbo, a virtual seminar has been prepared that requires prior reservation.
They also have free admission to the Museum of Romanticism -with an offer of guided tours that must be booked in advance-, as well as to the Railway Museum, and it will be possible to see, for free, the royal sites of Madrid: from the Royal Palace to the El Escorial Monastery, the Palace of Aranjuez or that of the Pardo.
The Villa de Colmenar Viejo House Museum, in addition to opening its doors free of charge, schedules a popular music performance and a wine tasting made in the museum’s winery. The goddess Cibeles and San Isidro will meet, in a fantasy, in the garden of the Lope de Vega House Museum. And the Regional Archaeological Museum of Alcalá de Henares will hold the colloquium ‘Heritage of Rome in modern life’, today at 7:00 p.m. Programming will continue through the weekend.
