Lower Saxony’s state parliament president Hanna Naber travels to Israel and the Palestinian territories on Tuesday for a one-week visit. “An important goal of our trip is to better understand the current developments on site,” said the SPD politicians, according to a statement on Monday. In the 75th year of the existence of the Israeli state, the strength and resilience of the local democracy is being challenged like never before.
Naber will be accompanied by Vice Presidents Marcus Bosse, Sabine Tippelt (both SPD), Jens Nacke, Barbara Otte-Kinast (both CDU) and Meta Janssen-Kucz (Greens). The visit from May 9th to 16th was intended to underline the close and long-standing ties between the state parliament and Israel.
Among other things, appointments are planned in the Israeli Ministry of Foreign Affairs and with political foundations and non-governmental organizations. The delegation plans to lay a wreath at the Yad Vashem Holocaust memorial. This will be followed by a discussion with a contemporary witness to the crimes committed in National Socialist Germany.
