So, like, there’s this huge wildfire in Ocean County, New Jersey, that’s been burning mad acres, making peeps evacuate, and closing a bunch of roads. The fire started on Tuesday, April 22, around 12:30 p.m. at the Greenwood Forest Wildlife Management Area in Barnegat Township. It then spread to Lacey Township and Ocean Township, sending these big, white smoke clouds into the air.

As of Wednesday, April 23, at 1:30 p.m., the “Jones Road Wildfire” scorched 12,000 acres, putting 20 structures at risk, causing evacuations in Ocean and Lacey townships, cutting power to thousands, and shutting down many roadways, including a part of the Garden State Parkway, making traffic a total mess.

Evacuations for like 5,000 peeps in Lacey and Ocean Townships have been lifted, and firefighters from all levels of government are trying to contain this beast. Thankfully, no one has gotten hurt, but the cause of this crazy fire is still a mystery.

During a press conference on Wednesday morning, New Jersey’s Commissioner of Environmental Protection Shawn LaTourette said this fire could be the biggest in the last 20 years. Stay tuned for more deets on this record-breaking blaze.
