Izquierda Unida has asked the Ministry of Education, Culture and Sports of Castilla-La Mancha to save the two mosaics “that flank the main entrance of the Virgen de la Salud Hospital in Toledo” and that these be declared “elements of patrimonial interest or assets of patrimonial interest”.

The IU vice-coordinator in the region, Isabel Álvarez, believes that there is still time “before the demolition of the building where they still remain” and after Sescam or the Board decide what is “the most appropriate destination.” In any case, Alvárez proposes that they move to the new hospital, as “a sort of recognition of the many years of service of the ‘Virgen de la Salud’.”

According to the description of Julián Ramos, in his article ‘Textile crafts in Toledo and its mountains’, the mosaics are made up “of tiny tesserae, which show the allegories of Toledo and its people.

On the left, the smiling charm of the reaper and the Foster Mother appear ruling the wheat fields while, on the right, flashes, with a flat and chiaroscuro drawing in its polychrome, the iron work of the Swordsmith and the delicate occupation of an Embroiderer who cross the cloth over the basket or basket of threads».

Although it is unknown who is the author of the mosaics, the IU vice-coordinator insists that “they are an exceptional sample.”
