Since becoming the Colts’ quarterback, Matt Ryan has received rave reviews from all levels of the team, including Jim Irsay.
This trend continues with Nyheim Hines.
At the beginning of the 2021 season, the running back signed a three year contract extension with the Colts. His production dropped significantly in 2020 due to the play of quarterback Carson Wentz. Hines had 63 receptions and 482 yards, with four TDs in 2020. Last season, he only had 40 catches for 310 yard with one touchdown.
Chris Ballard, General Manager of the Colts, stated that the Colts failed to make enough of the 2021 short plays — the layups. Many of these plays were made by Philip Rivers in 2020 as the quarterback.
These plays, according to the running back have a chance of being back in 2022.
Hines stated, via Nate Atkins, Indianapolis Star: “When we get certain defenses, we know Matt goes out there to kill.” He makes tight throws when he has to. He doesn’t miss the layups.
Hines seems to be confident in Ryan’s ability as a QB and has high regard for Ryan.
Hines stated, “It’s all about the quarterback.” “Quarterback play matters. This year, we’re going for great quarterback play. He’ll see the box and read the signs to get out of it if it’s stacked. He won’t be afraid to give the ball to someone else if it isn’t stacked.
“Matt holds the keys and we’re going as far as he takes.”
