A 31-year-old pedestrian is killed in a suspected illegal car race in the middle of Nuremberg – the driver of the car is now on Friday (8.30 a.m.) in front of the Nuremberg District Court.
The 23-year-old is accused of hitting the pedestrian with his car in July 2022 and fatally injuring him, a spokeswoman for the court said. The accused is said to have been driving near the main train station at a significantly increased speed, probably spurred on by another driver. According to the information, he lost control of his car in a curve and caught the 31-year-old on the footpath. The man died at the scene of the accident. Another pedestrian could only save himself by jumping to the side.
The 23-year-old from Nuremberg fled after the accident, but then turned himself in to the police. He has been in custody since July 2022. The charges are illegal motor vehicle racing resulting in death and unauthorized departure from the scene of the accident. A verdict could still be pronounced on Friday.
