A young man from Essen was injured in a police operation. As the Kleve police announced on Monday afternoon, the officers were alerted by residents on Sunday evening around 10 p.m. These stated that an unknown person in Kleve hit a parked car with an object.
When the police officers arrived at the scene, the suspect was holding a knife and threatened the officers. When spoken to by the police, he did not respond. The officers called for reinforcements, but the man was aggressive towards them too and he threatened the emergency services with a knife and a baton.
When officers asked him to put both of them down, he didn’t respond. According to the police, the use of pepper spray also had no effect. Finally, the 27-year-old attacked two police officers with a knife in his hand.
They grabbed their service weapons and fired shots at the man. “The attacker could be stopped with a shot in the lower leg,” said the police. He was taken to a hospital and his life is not in danger. The public prosecutor’s office in Kleve and the police in Krefeld are investigating.
