Gazprom, a Russian gas company, will stop deliveries to GasTerra, a Dutch state-owned supplier of GasTerra, starting Tuesday. This is because GasTerra refused to pay in Russian roubles.
GasTerra stated that Gazprom had announced it would interrupt supply starting May 31, 2022. It also stressed that it “anticipated” this by purchasing elsewhere.
Russian President Vladimir Putin demanded on March 31 that Russian gas buyers from “unfriendly” nations pay in rubles to Russia accounts, in order to avoid being deprived of supplies.
“GasTerra doesn’t comply with these payment obligations,” explained the company, noting that they present “a risk to violate sanctions developed by EU”, as well as “financial or operational risks”.

Rob Jetten, Climate and Energy Minister, stated on Twitter that “this decision has no implications for the physical gas supply to Dutch households.”
