Two people were seriously injured in an accident on Autobahn 5 near the Hattenbach Autobahn triangle on Wednesday evening. According to the police, a truck from Lithuania braked to a standstill in the right lane. A semi-trailer truck driving behind swerved into the left lane and collided there with a moving car. This was first thrown to the left into a steel protective wall, then to the right, where it crashed into the truck from Lithuania and back into the left lane.

The two 42-year-old occupants of the car were trapped, rescued by the fire department and taken to hospitals by ambulance. Police said they suffered serious but non-life-threatening injuries. The 55-year-old driver of the swerved truck suffered minor injuries. The two lanes in the north were closed for around three hours due to the salvage and cleaning work, but traffic was directed over the hard shoulder.
