Paul Pelosi, the husband of the president of the United States House of Representatives, Nancy Pelosi, was arrested and charged this Sunday for allegedly driving drunk after being involved in a traffic accident during the day on Saturday in the state of California.
Pelosi, 82, was charged after a breathalyzer test indicated he was driving under the influence of alcohol after colliding with another vehicle around 10:30 p.m. local time on Saturday. The event ended without injuries.
According to information collected by the American television network CNN, the bail has been set at 5,000 dollars (about 4,650 euros), an amount that would have been paid early on Sunday, which is why Pelosi’s husband was released.
The spokesman for the president of the House of Representatives, Drew Hammill, has stressed that Nancy Pelosi “will not comment on this private matter, which took place when she was on the East Coast”, where she had traveled to participate in an act in Brown University.
