We finally wanted to go into the snow again, the wife, the son and I. We were longing. At home in Hamburg, winter is a rare guest. And when it does come, it usually disappears again after a few days, into the Alps, into the mountains. For months it is grey, wet and too warm.
Things used to be different. Winter stayed in Hamburg too. Between 1978 and February 1979, for example, when the whole city was covered in snow, the parents looked for their car and the children went sledding. The Outer Alster froze over in the 1990s. Then people went out onto the ice to walk or ice skate.
The snow made you happy. It took the noise out of the world and calmed the nerves. We could use it, we thought a year ago and decided to travel after winter for a few days. In Carinthia, Austria, the woman found the “Almdorf Seinerzeit” and booked a chalet. The son and I liked that.
