Munich tennis pro Matthias Bachinger has ended his career. In the last match of his 16-year career, the Upper Bavarian lost his first round game in doubles at the ATP tournament in Munich. The 36-year-old local hero was beaten by the duo Robin Haase and Philipp Oswald 4: 6, 2: 6 alongside Austrian Dominic Thiem on Monday. “Many dreams came true. It was super emotional for me,” said Bachinger after the match. His career had been “a beautiful journey”.

Bachinger’s greatest success was taking part in the final of the tournament in Metz, France, five years ago. In August 2011, he reached his highest position in the world rankings with rank 85. At the Grand Slams, the Bavarian never got past the second round.
