At the finals in 2023, North Rhine-Westphalia won the country ranking held for the first time. At the multi-sport event, which was mainly held in the Rhine and Ruhr regions, athletes from the most populous federal state won the ranking with 28 gold, 29 silver and 31 bronze medals and took first place with 170 points. Baden-Württemberg followed in second place with 165 points, ahead of Hesse (114) and Bavaria (107.5).
In the fourth edition of the finals after 2019 (Berlin), 2021 (Berlin/Rhein-Ruhr) and 2022 (Berlin), 159 German championship titles in 18 sports were awarded.
