Luxembourg flags, flowers and applause for a royal wedding: Luxembourg Princess Alexandra (32) married Nicolas Bagory (34) on Saturday. The couple said yes at the civil wedding in the city hall of the capital. Several hundred onlookers had come to cheer the two on the way between the palace and the town hall. Alexandra is the fourth child and only daughter of Grand Duke Henri and Grand Duchess Maria Teresa of Luxembourg.

The wedding ceremony in the baroque hall of the town hall took place in a small family circle. At the request of the grand-ducal family, it was decorated with peonies. Shortly before that, the grand ducal court had tweeted: “Ready for the wedding?” and called to greet the couple and the grand-ducal family in the square in front of the town hall. The church wedding is scheduled to take place on April 29 in Bormes-les-Mimosas, France.

After the marriage, the bridal couple wanted to be close to the Luxembourgers. In a light drizzle, the two shook hands and accepted congratulations. Alexandra – in a light pants suit with long sleeves and a wide, long waistcoat – waved at the people with a beaming smile.

The newlyweds announced their engagement last November. Princess Alexandra studied psychology and social sciences in the US before earning a degree in philosophy in Paris. The Frenchman Bagory comes from Brittany, studied political science and classical literature and now works for social and cultural projects.

The last royal wedding was in Luxembourg in October 2012. The heir to the Luxembourg throne, Hereditary Grand Duke Guillaume, and Princess Stéphanie exchanged vows. At that time, representatives of numerous royal families came from Europe. No members of other royal families were invited to the wedding of Princess Alexandra and Bagory, the court said on request.

In the evening there should be a reception at the palace against. Luxembourg has around 660,000 inhabitants and is the only grand duchy in the world.
