Is the disappearance of the then 25-year-old Susanne S. from northern Germany more than 30 years now cleared up? The investigators draw new hope after pieces of the woman’s bones were found while gardening in Solingen.
As early as July 2019, a citizen of Solingen called the police because he had found bone fragments in his garden. It soon became clear: these are human bones.
Almost four years later, after “further investigations and investigations,” the criminal police achieved a breakthrough. There was a hit in the DNA database. The bone parts belong to the mortal remains of Susanne S. She disappeared in 1990 under unclear circumstances in the Hamburg area. Police investigations did not lead to their whereabouts, and the case eventually ended up in the files.
They have already gone to the authorities in North Rhine-Westphalia, as a spokeswoman for the Hamburg public prosecutor’s office told the “Rheinische Post”. There, the investigations were resumed after the bones were found.
On Tuesday, the police searched the garden property in Solingen, also with heavy equipment. “More bones and bone fragments were found,” officials said afterwards. “The extent to which these are of human origin and belong to the fragment found in 2019 is also part of the investigation, as is the background to the exact circumstances and where the bones were found.”
However, in the case of Susanne S., the investigators are back at the beginning. At the moment, “nothing can be said” about the cause of the woman’s death, said the responsible Wuppertal public prosecutor Janina Bachtenkirch the “Hamburger Abendblatt”. We are in the preliminary investigation stage. It is not known when the first results can be expected.
