The Nice stadium, as announced, respected this Saturday evening during the Ligue 1 match against Lille a minute of applause in memory of Emiliano Sala, Argentine footballer who died in 2019 in a plane crash, three days after a song which had shocked French football and outraged the whole world.
Wednesday during the Nice – Saint-Étienne match, a few days after Nantes beat Nice in the Coupe de France final, some of the OGCN supporters launched a chant targeting the former Nantes striker. “He’s an Argentinian who doesn’t swim well, Emiliano underwater”, sang the ultras from Nice around the 9th minute, parodying the song (“He’s an Argentinian, he doesn’t let go, Emiliano Sala” ) that the Nantes supporters sing at each match at this precise minute in tribute to the former N.9 of the Canaries.
The song had moved all of French football and had been strongly condemned by the management of OGC Nice, who said they were “appalled”.
