First they heard a loud whirring noise, then a bang. Hatice and her mother were sitting in the living room having coffee. Hatice thought the strong wind had slammed a window; her mother thought the noise had come from the garden. That’s where they found the crater, 40 centimeters in diameter and 40 centimeters deep, just one meter next to the seating area.

“Luckily the weather was bad that day, otherwise I might have just sat outside,” says Hatice. A good hour later, father Mahmut came home. He saw the black rock at the bottom of the crater and decided to do the most obvious thing: he called the fire department.
