Slovakia’s populist Prime Minister Robert Fico was injured by gunfire and taken to hospital. This is reported by the AP news agency, among others.

According to the news channel TA3, the incident occurred in the town of Handlova, about 150 kilometers northeast of the capital Bratislava. Fico was shot there after a cabinet meeting and taken to a hospital, the Slovak news agency TASR reported on Wednesday, citing the deputy leader of Fico’s Smer party, Lubos Blaha. A suspect has now been arrested, according to the DPA news agency.
