In a forest in Lower Bavaria, gerbils have been released in an open cage. According to the police on Tuesday, nine mice were brought back into the cage. The animals were given an emergency shelter overnight.
A walker discovered the cage on Monday evening in the forest in the municipality of Bad Birnbach (Rottal-Inn district). Officials believe the owner wanted to get rid of the mice and abandoned them. The police are investigating a violation of the Animal Welfare Act.
