Marvel and sweat yourself – the “sport.aktiv” trade fair has opened its doors in Erfurt. For the 15th time, sports enthusiasts are invited for two days to get to know and try out well-known and new types of sports. The organizers are hoping for around 10,000 visitors to the offers in two halls and on the outdoor area – including families as well as professionals, fans of individual sports as well as team admirers.

“Mountain biking is one of the most popular sports and a rapidly growing tourism segment,” said a spokesman for the Thuringian Forest regional association. For the first time this year, the association is represented with partners at the sports fair. The interest in mountain biking has also grown enormously in the Thuringian Forest, said the spokesman. On an area of 500 square meters, visitors can venture on a course made of natural materials – bikes and helmets are available for hire. Trainers and experts from the Thuringian mountain bike scene are available to answer questions and present their skills.

Many other athletes also show their talents. Among other things, the concert hall of the Erfurt Exhibition Center was transformed into a beach volleyball arena with 240 tons of sand. In a tournament, men’s and women’s teams can collect points for the ranking here. At the first inclusive basketball tournament in Central Germany, athletes with multiple disabilities compete against each other. According to the organizers, this is a dress rehearsal for numerous teams and their coaches for the Special Olympics World Games in the summer.
