The Real Madrid coach, Pablo Laso, was very happy after gaining access to the Euroleague final after defeating Barça (83-86) and highlighted the joint work of his entire squad, although he put the accent on Sergi Llull, the “soul of this team”.
“Llull is the soul of this team, he has always been and I think he will be forever,” he said of the man from Mahón, who scored 15 points. He has played more minutes today after what happened to Nigel Williams-Goss and he has been solid defensively, like the rest of the team. He has put in a great performance but so has the whole team”, Laso said at the end of the match.
The man from Vitoria stated that it was a “great victory” without forgetting the 18 points from Causeur and also from Yabusele. “You have to give credit to the boys because we executed the game plan very well against a team with many weapons. We had the injury at the beginning that broke that game plan a bit, but then we were able to concentrate everything time,” he analysed.
“They are a great team and they have a lot of talent, in the end we never felt that we had won it. I am very happy for the victory and to think about the final,” Laso added in statements to DAZN, where he also explained how he has managed this ‘Final Four’ after such an irregular year.
“The management of a ‘Final Four’ starts in September because when you get here it means you’ve done a lot of work beforehand. We had a difficult time, especially until the Cup, with many games, with COVID, the Cup final hurt us a lot and it was difficult for us to react but at that time we already had the ‘playoff’ position assured”, he said.
“And that was when we began to prepare for these finals. I think the team has given its best version at the moment and my players have done a great job, not only today, but throughout the season”, concluded Laso, who will face his fifth Euroleague final.
