The police in Bavaria launched a large-scale operation against members of the Italian mafia ‘Ndrangheta. The Bavarian State Criminal Police Office announced that Italian EU arrest warrants against four men had been executed. Around 130 police officers, including special units, had searched ten apartments and business premises in the city and district of Munich since the morning. According to the LKA, they secured several kilos of marijuana, electronic data carriers and documents. “These are now being evaluated,” said an LKA spokesman.

According to the LKA, the searches and arrests were part of Operation Eureka, one of the largest and most important proceedings against organized crime in recent years. German, Belgian and Italian authorities have been investigating the criminal Italian organization based in Calabria for three years in close cooperation with Eurojust and Europol. He is accused of drug trafficking, money laundering, arms trafficking and other crimes. There were also searches in North Rhine-Westphalia, Rhineland-Palatinate, Saarland and Thuringia.

In Bavaria, the Munich I public prosecutor and the LKA have been investigating a woman and seven men with Italian citizenship between the ages of 25 and 48 since July 2020. These are suspected of having participated in the co-financing of the international cocaine trade, providing logistics support and money laundering.
