Since May 25, the Lacanau cultural association has been hosting an exhibition about the culture and history of surfing in the Escoure space. The exhibition includes sculptures, comics and photographs, as well as mythical boards. The event features nearly a dozen artists, including Delphine Trentacosta (photographer), Samuel Dougados (visual artist) and Sophie Pigeon (artist).
Philippe Collin doesn’t live in Canau, but he is very familiar with the area. He is a dentist by day and becomes Djef at night in his studio. He returned to Herault with his sculptures after exhibiting in Biarritz, Los Angeles and other cities a few years back. These sculptures were made from materials that have been shaped by the ocean and then deposited by the waves at the coast.
Djef uses his own work to create his works. “The figures I make are made of crystal or glass and I use surgical glue for assembly.” Djef, who describes himself as an eternal beginner surfer and plans to retire in three months so he can devote his time to his creations. The exhibition will be open from 10:30 a.m. until 12:30 p.m., and from 4:30 to 7 p.m.
