In a head-on collision between a van and a car in Greußen in the Kyffhäuser district, eight people were injured, three of them seriously. A 20-year-old van driver drove with his five occupants on Friday evening on federal highway 4 in the direction of Greußen when he overtook at the Schilfa junction despite an approaching car in oncoming traffic, as the police announced on Sunday.
The oncoming driver tried to avoid the approaching van, but the two vehicles collided head-on. All six occupants of the van, the driver and his passenger were injured and taken to hospital.
According to police estimates, the two vehicles suffered property damage of around 40,000 euros. In the course of the rescue and clean-up work, the fire brigade had to remove spilled petrol from the roadway. The B4 was completely blocked for about two hours. The 20-year-old van driver is expected to be charged with road traffic and bodily harm. The investigations are ongoing.
