Romanian police have arrested macho influencer Andrew Tate for “sex trafficking” and other offences. The former kickboxer is known as the “King Of Toxic Masculinity”. The raid included searching his misogynist “Hustler Academy” and a nearby home. Tate is said to have held women captive against their will in this building. Under the pretext of romance, they were lured to Romania and forced to have sex chats on the Internet, according to the allegations. The home was previously searched in April 2022 after an American woman claimed she was being held there against her will.
The British “Times” was able to speak to a woman from the house. The 22-year-old is called Lisa and does not want to reveal her last name to the public. She fled Ukraine and strenuously denies that the controversial British “influencer” abused women in the house. During the raid, 22-year-old Lisa, Tate’s personal assistant and two Romanian TikTok influencers were in the building. According to Lisa, the police were unsuccessful in the search because none of them had anything to do with porn.
“Everything the police said isn’t true. I know Tate and his brother Tristan and they couldn’t do something like that. The girls who live here don’t do that. We’re good girls.”
One can only speculate about the reasons that prompted Lisa to do the interview. But allegations that Tate ran an illegal sex empire also put the women around him in a bad light.
Lisa told The Times she met them at a party in Kyiv about three years ago. So before the war. The online sex business was “a long time ago,” says Lisa. That was around the time the brothers were about 23 or 24 and made their first million dollars. She speaks of twelve years, today Andrew Tate is 36. And the two brothers are very rich, Lisa points out. Far too rich to bother forcing a few women into sex chats. “You can never make that much money from video sex chat.”
Lisa stated that she lives in a gated community, where the value of the semi-detached house is said to be around 350,000 euros. The two TikTok stars invited her there. But the Romanians don’t do porn, they would earn about 4000 dollars a month with funny clips.
During the search, the police also confiscated Lisa’s laptop. “The police wanted to know what I do for a living. I told them that I receive payments for Ukrainian refugees and showed them all the documents and they just said ‘OK’.”
Lisa cannot accept the allegations: “We know Andrew and Tristan and cannot understand why the police say these things.”
“I know what the police are saying is untrue. They have no evidence. There is no video sex chat.”
She knows that Andrew Tate appears in his videos as a wild misogynist. When asked about this, Lisa said it was a “bad tour” but that everything was “just for show”. “He’s not like that in real life.”
Tate is currently in police custody. It is not known what evidence there is against him. However, given the current state of the investigation, this is not unusual. Police custody should not be confused with pre-trial detention, which is common in Germany. In order to enforce pre-trial detention, well-founded suspicions must be presented to a judge. The police can enforce custody for various reasons on their own.
The extent of this interference with civil rights or the police’s position of power differs greatly from country to country. In Germany, detention is only an ad hoc measure that the police use to remain able to act in a situation. The detention may not exceed 24 hours, should the person concerned remain in detention longer, a judicial decision is necessary. In some countries the deadline is 72 hours, i.e. three days. In Romania, detention can last as long as 30 days.
The Tate brothers are currently taking legal action against their custody. With them were arrested Luana Radu, 32, a former police officer, and Tate’s girlfriend, Georgiana Naghel, 28.
