Jan Fedder’s (1955-2019) collector’s items are going under the hammer almost five years after his death. His widow Marion Fedder (62) is auctioning off 25 of the “Großstadtrevier” star’s personal items. “Of course I don’t give away the beautiful collector’s items lightly. But since Jan has collected everything possible, I have decided to part with some things and hope that they find a new owner,” explains the 62-year-old to “Bild” – Newspaper.
She is starting an auction for her late husband’s collectibles on the online auction house Ebay, which will go online on Friday (April 19) at 8 p.m. The starting bid for all pieces is one euro. Marion Fedder wants to use the proceeds to keep her husband’s memory alive. “It serves to create further places of remembrance and facilities in his hometown of Hamburg so that he can continue to live as a legend,” she explains.
The items on offer include three of the actor’s vehicles: his vintage Mercedes Ponton 180 D, his favorite motorcycle and a Ford Explorer. “Jan’s two private cars were also used in the ‘Großstadtrevier’ filming. He often used the Ford in the series when he was on the road as an undercover investigator,” explains Fedder’s widow.
In addition, the toaster in which the television chef Clemens Wilmenrod (1906-1967) once invented Hawaiian toast, the cash register from Fedder’s parents’ pub and his first record player are also said to be changing hands. A lighter belonging to former Chancellor Helmut Schmidt (1918-2015) is also for sale. The silver gas lighter bears the politician’s original signature. “Jan bought it at an auction house,” reports Marion Fedder.
It is not the first auction of her husband’s estate that Jan Fedder’s widow is launching. She had already offered numerous pieces for sale in 2021 and 2022. She used the proceeds to support the Hamburg Church of St. Michael’s, to which Fedder was closely associated. A vintage Mercedes car, which was also driven in the “big city area”, brought in 97,050 euros. A buyer paid 14,155 euros for a kitchen clock from the TV star.
Jan Fedder died on December 30, 2019 at the age of 64 in his Hamburg apartment. With great sympathy from the population, the funeral service personally planned by Fedder during his lifetime took place in Hamburg’s Michel on January 14, 2020, his 65th birthday. Afterwards there was a mourning convoy through the streets of St. Pauli. Two days later, the Hamburg artist was buried in the Ohlsdorf cemetery with his closest family and friends.
