There is also a chance of severe storms in northeast Alabama throughout the evening. The Storm Prediction Center has assigned a slight risk (level 2) to the northeast counties of the state. This includes places like Huntsville and Scottsboro as well as Gadsden, Centre, Anniston, Oneonta, Gadsden and Centre. Camden, Greenville, and Eufaula are all subject to a marginal risk (level 1).
A few tornadoes could be produced by storms in the area at slight risk tonight. Storms in the marginal-risk zone could produce hail. As the air becomes more stable, showers and storms will diminish after sunset.
For northeast Alabama, a Tornado Watch was issued until 10 p.m.
The state’s upper low west will move northward on Thursday, weakening slightly. However, scattered showers and storms with a mixture of sun and clouds are still possible across Alabama.
FRIDAY AND THE WEEKEND It will be dry and warm with plenty of sunshine on Saturday and Sunday. Friday’s high will be in low 80s, with a mid 80s Saturday and on Sunday.
NEXT WEEK – New global model data indicates dry weather across most of the state for the entire week, as an upper storm builds across the Deep South. The highs will remain in the low 80s.
TROPICS: The Atlantic basin remains very quiet. There is only a 10% chance that a disturbance will develop north of the Bahamas in the next five days. That is the only thing of note. The Gulf of Mexico remains quiet throughout the weekend.
FOOTBALL WEATHER – Friday night’s high school football games will be held in clear skies with temperatures dropping to the 70s.
Saturday’s college games:
GEORGIA AT AUBURN (2:30 p.m. Kickoff at Jordan-Hare Stadium). It will be a sunny and warm afternoon in east Alabama. Expect a temperature of near 83 degrees for kickoff, dropping to the upper 70s by quarter four.
FLORIDA ATLANTIC AT UAB (2:30 PM kickoff at Protective Stadium, Birmingham): Sunny and warm. It was 83 degrees at kickoff. It dropped to 76 at the end.
STEPHEN F. AUSTIN AT JACKSONVILLE STEATE (3 p.m. Kickoff at Burgess-Snow Field). Sunny and warm, with 82 degrees at kickoff. It will drop to the mid 70s by quarter four.
SOUTH ALABAMA AT TEXAS TEXAS STATE (6 p.m. CT kickoff San Marcos Texas): Clear skies; temperatures will fall from around 88 at kickoff down to close to 76 by the end whistle.
GEORGIA SOUTHERN at TROY (6 p.m. Kickoff at Veterans Memorial Stadium). The skies will be clear as temperatures drop from 80 degrees at kickoff to the low 70s in the fourth quarter.
ALABAMA AT TEXAS A&M (7 p.m. CT): Clear skies with temperatures in the mid 70s at the end of the match.
ON THIS DATE IN 2010, A severe storm event hit northern Arizona, with at least eight tornadoes confirmed. This was the most tornadoes that have ever struck Arizona in one day. The longest-tracked tornado in Arizona’s history was an EF2 tornado that lasted 34 miles.
THE CENTER OF Category 4 Hurricane Matthew was within 100 miles of Miami.
