A burning car, an evacuated residential complex and several injured: An escalated dispute between a man and a family in Ulm triggered a major deployment by the fire brigade and police on Sunday. A total of six people were injured, including two police officers from inhaled smoke gases, as the police headquarters in Ulm announced in the evening. The police are investigating an attempted homicide.

The fire brigade had previously been informed of a fire in a multi-storey building complex in the Ochsensteige in the afternoon, as a spokesman said when asked by the dpa. According to the police, there was also evidence of an altercation between a man and a family living there. The emergency services found that at least one car had been set on fire in the garage of the house. Since this gave access to all apartments in the building complex, all residents had to leave the house, the spokesman said.

The man tried to gain access to the family’s apartment, it said. He was badly injured. How his injury came about and how he tried to get into the apartment was not initially known. It was also unclear what relationship the man had to the family, what the background to the argument was and how the burning car was related to the argument.

According to the information, the residents of the residential complex were able to return to their apartments after two hours. A total of around 90 emergency services from the fire and rescue services were on site.
