Four years ago, India tried to send a rocket to the moon. At that time, shortly before the planned landing, contact with the control center on earth broke off.
If the now planned mission is successful, India, the most populous country in the world, would join the exclusive club of moon landing nations. So far, only the USA, Russia and China have landed on the moon.
India plans to place a rover on the moon during the Chandrayaan mission to explore the celestial body’s surface. According to media reports, the 14-day mission will cost $74.6 million (€67.8 million). In 2008, an Indian probe orbited the moon.
