Protest against 25% of Spanish in Catalan classrooms. Dozens of students from the SEPC union, linked to the CUP, have gathered this Monday in front of the Government Delegation in Catalonia, some of them chained to barrels as a sign of rejection of the court ruling.

Under a banner with the slogan “Our language, our future”, the young people, who have staged a sit-in in front of the official offices on Mallorca Street in Barcelona, have stressed that “they will not obey the impositions of the Spanish State”.

Along with the protest, a large deployment of Mossos d’Esquadra troops, who have shielded the building that houses the headquarters of the Government Delegation. According to what the students have denounced, the agents have identified and evicted some of them, although the mobilization has ended without incident.

Despite this, the presence of the Police in the area has garnered criticism from the SEPC towards the Government of the Generalitat: «Send the Police Corps to surround us and threaten us with charges. We remain firm because defending our language is not only legitimate, but also essential if we want a future in Catalan”, they have stated from the student organization.

It is worth remembering that, since 2017, the movement called Esquerra Independentista, which is politically led by the CUP, and which includes, among others, Arran, and the Sindicat d’Estudiants dels Països Catalans (SEPC), has carried out 89 violent acts in the community. .

Of the last five years, the most violent was 2019, when Arran and the SEPC carried out 52 attacks. An average of one violent act per week. That year was the year of the hangover from the illegal referendum of 2017 and the sentence of the Supreme Court against the political leaders of the first line of the ‘procés’.
