Sheer luck: In a motorway accident in Lower Franconia, a car got detached from a car transporter and flew into an oncoming vehicle, into which a following car crashed – but four people were slightly injured. First, the 38-year-old driver of a car transporter thundered against the concrete protective barrier on Saturday night on Autobahn 3 near Waldbrunn (Würzburg district) because of a microsleep. “Due to the massive impact, the upper, front car broke free and flew into the oncoming lane,” said the traffic police inspectorate in Würzburg-Biebelried.
There, a 40-year-old driving in the direction of Frankfurt could no longer avoid the bullet. A driver driving behind him managed this maneuver, but his car then crashed into the car of the 40-year-old, who was now sliding across the road. “Obviously, not only vehicles were flying at this time, but also guardian angels, because fortunately both occupants of the accident car and the occupant of the following car were only slightly injured and were able to leave the surrounding hospitals again that night,” commented the police.
The driver of the semi-trailer truck, which was loaded with a total of nine cars, also escaped with minor injuries. There was property damage of around 150,000 euros. The A3 had to be completely closed again and again in both directions. The rescue and repair of the accident site dragged on until Saturday afternoon. “It was a large field of debris,” said a police spokesman.
