Firefighters treated a 30-year-old woman and her 10-year old son who had drowned near the Pont Roman in Gorges de la Meouge on Thursday, May 26. Just before 6 p.m., the alert was issued. Witnesses resuscitated the mother in cardiorespiratory arrest on the spot. Two victims in absolute emergency were conscious when rescuers arrived. The mother of the family was flown to the Gap hospital. The young boy was also transported to the Gap hospital center by road.
18 firefighters, including whitewater rescue specialists, were sent to the scene. Gap’s Smur (mobile emergency resuscitation service) and Briancon’s Smur intervened. During the rescue operations, the gendarmerie cut the access road to the site of intervention in Val-Buech-Meouge.
