When Manuel, a user of the Third Activity residence in Aguilar de Campoo (Palencia), was offered the challenge of recreating the mythical cover of Nirvana’s ‘Nevermind’, he did not hesitate. The only condition: go out with a swimsuit. A submersible camera, the essential collaboration of the pool staff and several dives until the desired effect was achieved, did the rest. Such was his commitment and enthusiasm that the original photo hardly had to be edited, just giving it a few design touches to incorporate the title of the album and the famous dollar bill and little else.

Thanks to his initiative, Manuel has managed to bring one of the Palencia Sonora concerts to the center where he lives. It is the result of the first music photography contest organized by the Palencia festival.

The jury of the contest, formed by members of the organization of the Palencia festival. has valued the creativity, originality and technical quality of this proposal made in the Aguilarense residential center, highlighted in a statement from the Santa María la Real Foundation, the entity that manages the residence.

The members of the jury also highlighted the high artistic level, the humor and the freshness of many of the snapshots, with images that recreate, for example, the performance that earned Massiel first place in Eurovision in 1968, the cover of ‘El negationist’, from the group Los Planetas, the EP of the singer Lady Gaga ‘The fame monster’, a portrait of the Village People or the iconic image of The Beatles when they posed at a zebra crossing in Abbey Road.

With a selection of the 41 images submitted to the competition, made by the users of the Third Activity residences of Aguilar de Campoo, San Bernabé and San Antolín, San Telmo, the San Cebrián Elderly Day Center and the San José Home Center, the festival will organize a traveling exhibition that can be seen in each of the participating centers.

The date for the concert is yet to be determined between the residency and the festival.
