A new state parliament was elected in Lower Saxony around four weeks ago. The SPD clearly won the polls, the Greens became the third strongest party behind the CDU. The SPD and the Greens had already announced during the election campaign that they wanted to form an alliance. They successfully completed their coalition negotiations on Monday. Both parties had governed together from 2013 to 2017.
