Friedrich Merz has officially declared opposition to the Greens. The CDU leader and opposition leader wants more discussion, ultimately more conflict and confrontation with the second strongest force in the traffic light coalition, which he has identified as “the main opponent” in the federal government for the “foreseeable future” (stern reported).

Why? Merz sees it this way: The eco-party has heated tempers, especially with its energy and environmental policy, and thus contributed to the strengthening of the AfD, but not the CDU and CSU. Consequently, according to his calculations, the Union must position itself as a clever counter-model to green behavior in order to become more visible and, in case of doubt, more successful again.
