The Eisbären Berlin have celebrated an important success in the relegation battle in the German Ice Hockey League (DEL). On Sunday evening, the German champions won 3:2 (1:2, 2:0, 0:0) at the Augsburg Panthers and pushed the Swabians from 13th place in the table. Kevin Clark, Matt White, and Zach Boychuk scored for the Berliners, who had previously lost three league games in a row.

Even before the game, sports director Stéphane Richer had expressed his confidence in his critically acclaimed coach Serge Aubin. “There is no ultimatum,” said the Canadian at Magentasport. “He’s still reaching the players. We want to stick together and work hard to get back up.”

In front of 5050 spectators in the Curt Frenzel Stadium, Clark scored for the guests after 62 seconds. However, the home side equalized a little later through Ryan Kuffner and went into the first break with a narrow lead thanks to a power play goal from Braden Lamb. However, the polar bears did not appear unsure and were able to turn the result in their favor in the second third with goals from White and Boychuk. In the final section, the Berliners successfully defended their lead and were ultimately able to escape the relegation zone thanks to their first three-point win since November 4th.
