A German man who is suspected of having held and tortured his wife has been arrested in France near Saarland. The man in his mid-50s was arrested in Forbach on Monday morning and taken into police custody, a spokeswoman for the French police said. Further details were not initially known.
The French broadcaster BFMTV reported that the woman had alerted security forces in Germany with a stolen phone at the weekend. According to the report, the German woman said she had been held and abused by her husband since 2011. The police found the woman naked and with a shaved head in a locked and barred room on Monday. She was malnourished and taken to a hospital with traces of old broken bones on her legs and fingers.
