Former Activision Blizzard Studio Toys for Bob Teams With Xbox for First Game as Indie Developer
Former Activision Blizzard studio “Toys for Bob,” known for creating popular games such as “Spyro,” “Crash Bandicoot,” and “Skylanders,” has joined forces with Xbox for its initial project as an independent developer.
Acquired by Activision Blizzard in 2005, Toys for Bob transitioned into an independent studio on February 29, after Microsoft’s acquisition of Activision Blizzard for $69 billion. The studio, led by Paul Yan and Avery Lodato, announced a collaboration with Xbox to release their first indie game.
While details about the upcoming title remain under wraps, the partnership announcement aligns with Xbox’s Games Showcase event scheduled for June 9 in Los Angeles. The event typically features reveals of new titles, including this year’s anticipated “Call of Duty: Black Ops 6” and projects from other Xbox studios and third-party developers.
Speculations about a potential collaboration between Toys for Bob and Xbox surfaced in March, with Friday’s confirmation solidifying the agreement between the studio and Xbox executives Phil Spencer and Matt Booty.
