After the cup bankruptcy, the new Bayern coach Thomas Tuchel did not rate the hand penalty action by national soccer player Jamal Musiala positively. “Nowadays you can’t jump in like that anymore. You just can’t do that. You’re taking a crazy risk,” said Tuchel on the Sky TV channel about the scene that led to the penalty in injury time. Lucas Höler converted the penalty that was due to SC Freiburg’s 2-1 win in the DFB Cup quarter-finals at FC Bayern Munich. Before the game-winning scene, however, Tuchel saw some mistakes made by his new team. “We lost two header duels in the penalty area in the last minute. You have to put your body in there, be more stable, be tougher,” said Tuchel. Bayern’s defense chief Matthijs de Ligt said about the action that led to the cup: “I was right behind it. I immediately thought it was a penalty.” There was no criticism for Musiala from his teammates. “We will definitely be there for him as a team,” said Thomas Müller. Freiburg coach Christian Streich wanted to give the 20-year-old Musiala a consoling high five immediately after Bayern’s cup exit, but Musiala obviously didn’t feel like it at all. The national player turned away from the Freiburg coach.
