Goalkeeper Stefan Drljaca saved Dynamo Dresden’s victory in the 99th league game against FC Erzgebirge Aue. The 23-year-old was the best Dynamo player at 1-0 (1-0) on Saturday. In a racy, intense duel marked by many mistakes, Ahmet Arslan put Dynamo ahead after 39 minutes with a penalty kick. In front of 30,808 spectators in the sold-out Rudolf Harbig Stadium, both teams then missed numerous chances. Dresden moves up to fifth place with the win, Aue remains in midfield.
The early stages belonged to the guests, who met Dynamo with high pressure and thus impressed. The hosts did little in building up the game, but Aue created a few opportunities. Only after 15 minutes did Dynamo set accents in front. Also because Aue Christian Conteh left too much room. However, the fast attacker didn’t take advantage of his chances (18th/42nd). So he failed free-standing twice at Aue captain Martin Männel. His opponent Drljaca was also able to distinguish himself when he saved a shot from Omar Sijaric (19) and a header from Marvin Stefaniak in great style.
The lead after the converted penalty – Boris Tashchy had bumped into Tim Knipping – gave Dynamo more security. However, the hosts were lucky that in injury time in the first half, neither Sijaric nor Linus Rosenlocher scored to equalize.
In the second half, too, both teams outdid each other in missing high-profile opportunities. Rosenlocher (55th) and Tim Danhof (62nd) failed at Drljaca, Conteh and Stefan Kutschke (59th) at the multi-legged Aue defense. Dynamo started defending their lead early on and waited for a counterattack. The guests struggled, but did not find the decisive idea in the opposing penalty area. A header from Erik Majetschak (87th) landed on the post.
