Despite a defeat in a friendly against English top club FC Liverpool, second division soccer team Karlsruher SC opened the converted and sold-out Wildpark stadium with a celebrated success. In front of 34,000 spectators on Wednesday evening, the hosts gave up a temporary 2-1 lead and unfortunately lost 2-4 (1-1).

The first goal after the reopening was scored by coach Jürgen Klopp’s almost full-strength guest team. Darwin Núñez scored after three minutes. Despite the early deficit, KSC courageously confronted Liverpool and scored a well-deserved equalizer through Lars Stindl (39th). Five minutes after the break, Jung turned the game around before the two substitutes Cody Gakpo (69′) and Diogo Jota (90′ 2/90′ 4) ensured the late win for the favourite.

Liverpool is currently preparing for the new season in the Premier League in Donaueschingen and will be testing in camera at SpVgg Greuther Fürth on Monday. The North Badeners are already back in action on Saturday when they welcome newly promoted Bundesliga team SV Darmstadt 98 to their own club grounds.
